🥇 Setting sails for LTAD

quick thought for you this 4th of July:

“Well done is better than well said.” – Ben Franklin

Just go do it.

Whatever it is that you’ve been talking about wanting for a while now, take action.

We live in a pretty talkative society. There’s a lot of buzz on social media where people talk about “the grind.”

Most of it is eyewash. Very few people actually get up and attack their goals each and every day.

Most people do it for 2 weeks because it’s new, fresh, and exciting. But, then it stops being new, fresh, and exciting and when the first big obstacle gets in their way, they shut down.

The easiest way to separate yourself is to show up each day and work your tail off.

Actions > Words.

A slight course correction

We’re switching gears.

This newsletter is going to focus on long-term athlete development (LTAD).

In other words: how can you maximize your child’s athletic career, while not letting them get screwed up physically and/or psychologically by the process.

The youth/high school sports world is difficult to navigate. FOMO, specialization, over-diversification, lack of unstructured play, pay-to-play systems, inappropriate training, lack of injury identification, and so much more are rampant issues that detract from the development process.

Sports are a beautiful thing that can be an incredible tool for shaping kids into successful adults.

When done the right way, LTAD has 5 pillars/objectives:

  1. Optimize athletic potential
  2. Maximize athletic enjoyment
  3. Instill lifelong health behaviors
  4. Instill translatory life skills
  5. Minimize injury cost

We’ll be diving deep into each one of these pillars in this newsletter.

There will still be plenty of breakdowns on how to get crazy fast, strong, and powerful. There will still be plenty of injury identification and rehab breakdowns.

But, instead of being written for physical therapists, it will be written for intelligent parents and athletes who want to develop athleticism the right way.

I can’t wait to explore more and go on this journey with you! But for now, go eat some burgers and celebrate your independence.

Best,

Zach
